Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, the Mavin Records’ signee known professionally as Ayra Starr, has emerged as Boomplay’s top female artist in Nigeria for 2022.

Boomplay announced this in its recently-released annual recap, the #BoomplayRecap2022, which provides an overview of music consumption and insights into listeners’ musical taste buds and preferences for the year.

According to the recap, gospel singer Mercy Chinwo and singer and songwriter Simi took the second and third positions respectively on the top female artists’ chart.

This year’s recap said that Burnaboy emerged as Boomplay’s top male artist followed by Asake and Kizz Daniel.

Kizz Daniel and Tekno topped the most streamed song of 2022 with ‘Buga (lo lo lo)’, ‘Overloading (Overdose)’ by Mavin Records came in second, and Fireboy’s ‘Bandana’ featuring Asake emerged as the third most streamed song.

On the top three most streamed albums out of so many top-notch music projects in 2022 are Burna Boy’s ‘Love, Damini’, Asake’s ‘Mr. Money With The Vibe’, and Kizz Daniel’s ‘Barnabas’.

Boomplay said the selections for the top three female and male artists, and the top three most streamed songs and albums of 2022 were based on the number of streams on the music streaming and download service between 1 November 2021 and 31 October 2022.

Young Jonn, Asake and Lade were picked by the Boomplay editorial team and experts in the music industry as the top booming artists in 2022.

Based on the number of times a song hit No.1 on the top 100 Nigeria weekly chart between 1 November 2021 and 31 October 2022, the chart-topping songs in 2022 are ‘Sip (Alcohol) by Joeboy, ‘Buga (lo lo lo)’ by Kizz Daniel and Tekno, and ‘Overloading (Overdose)’ by Mavin Records.

According to Boomplay, ‘Sip (Alcohol)’ topped the top 100 Nigeria weekly chart for ten weeks, followed by ‘Buga (lo lo lo)’ which was number one for eight weeks, and ‘Overloading (Overdose)’ stayed at number one for six weeks.

Moses Bliss’s ‘Too Faithful’, Mercy Chinwo’s ‘Obinasom’ and Omo Baba’s ‘Spirit of Prophecy’ emerged as the most streamed gospel songs in 2022 according to the number of streams between 1 November 2021 and 31 October 2022.

Boomplay noted in the #BoomplayRecap2022 that streaming on the platform grew in 2022 by 248 per cent, which was made possible by its 88 million monthly active users and a record increase in its catalogue to over 90 million songs.
