As part of effort to safeguard the health of people, Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State has shut down over one hundred quack medical facilities and pharmaceutical stores including a hospital with a fake surgeon who delivers babies.
The development followed public outcry of frequent death of women during childbirth and manifestation of deformities by patients experiencing after using the health facilities.
The decision of the Local Government, followed discovery by the health committee led by a community leader, Abubakar Usman Kareba, who investigated the matter and uncovered that so many fake health facilities operating illegally in the area.
According to Kareba, the local government would not relent in taking legal actions against all those arrested, including a traditional medicine attendant who takes delivery and performs surgical operations.
The Committee Chairman, Kareba, said legal action would be taken against all those arrested to serve as a deterrent to others.
One of the Quack doctors, James Bawa, admitted all the charges leveled against him, but pleaded with the committee to forgive him.
