Nigerian music stars Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Adekunle Gold and Tems once again put Nigeria on the global stage on Sunday night as they won various awards at the eighth edition of the All-Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, won the ‘Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Album of the Year awards.
Davido, born David Adeleke, won the ‘Best Artiste Duo or Group in African Electro’, the ‘Best Male Artiste in African Inspirational Music’, and the ‘Artiste with the Best African Collaborations’.
The ‘Best Male Artiste in West Africa’ went to Ayo Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid.
Adekunle Gold, born Adekunle Kosoko, won ‘Best Artiste Duo or Group in African Pop’ for his hit track ‘High’ which features Davido and picked a solo prize in the ‘Best Artiste in African Contemporary MMusiccategory.
‘Best Soundtrack in Movies, Series and Documentaries’ went to Tems, born Temilade Openiyi, for her ‘No Woman, No Cry’ on the ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ movie.
The awards night, which was held at the 15,000 capacity Dakar Arena in Diamniadio, Senegal climaxed the four days festival of music to celebrate African music superstars.
African artistes, including PSquare, Fave, Black O, Black Sheriff, Diere entertained their fans with energising performances.
