The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the Federal Government, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disband the Jagaban Army, to be able to achieve a peaceful election in 2023.
PDP made this known on Arise TV on Wednesday when Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP presidential campaign spokesperson and immediate past National Spokesperson of the party, was a guest at a programme, Morning Show.
According to Ologbondiyan, the party had raised the flag about the fact that Jagaban Army was a conduit to bring together thugs and arsonists that would cause havoc during the elections.
It would be recalled that Jagaban Army was inaugurated by the youth arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of Hon. Dayo Israel, the APC National Youth Leader in January this year
The PDP spokesperson said, “We have also said that President Muhammadu Buhari should call a meeting of the National Security Council to address the issue, and they have not been able to provide any defense. Part of the issue is what happened at Surulere area of Lagos State and other places, where our gubernatorial candidate campaign train was attacked.
“Don’t forget that in the 2019 election, apart from the threat of throwing people into the ocean, in areas that were dominated by those who they felt would not vote for them, they almost didn’t allow elections to hold.
He added, “Now the leader of the pack, Bola Tinubu is on the ballot, you can imagine what would happen. I believe that INEC and security agencies have a lot of role to play if indeed we want to have a peaceful, free, fair and credible elections. They must ensure that the Jagaban Army is publicly disbanded. They must ensure that security agencies would protect all those who come out to vote and allow their votes to be protected.”
Speaking about the attack on the Akwa Ibom State governor, Emmanual Udom by Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, Ologbondiyan said, “As part of the hospitality of Akwa Ibom people which Udom Emmanuel represents, Tinubu won’t say that he didn’t drink coffee because every facility which he required to make his stay successful was provided, how that kind of a person turned around to become abusive to his host is part of the disconnection that we have been talking about,”
On issue based campaign, Ologbondiyan said, ”Let Tinubu speak to Nigerians. He can come to Arise TV or even go to TVC and speak to Nigerians. Let him engage in a 10 minutes debate. His aides would run away and cannot bring their principal. Let me assure everyone that our party would do everything in respect of every commitment that we have made to Nigerians.”
