The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says candidates without personal emails will not be able to register for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from 31 January.

This is contained in a statement signed by the board’s head of public affairs and protocol, Fabian Benjamin, yesterday.

Benjamin said the directive, which is to ensure that the candidates’ up-to-date data are duly captured during registration, followed a review of the board’s advisory on the ongoing UTME registration.

He instructed candidates to create a personal email address before proceeding with the registration, saying that the email address is a professional means of communication with candidates.

“Furthermore, the e-mail provides more flexibility in communication and is a more professional way of reaching out to candidates,” a part of the statement reads.

“Candidates are, therefore, advised to get their genuine e-mail addresses before proceeding with UTME registration. In addition, candidates are to ensure that their passwords are kept securely, as the board does not retrieve lost email passwords or change email addresses once registered.”

Meanwhile, Is’haq Oloyede, JAMB registrar, says the board was targeting 1.8 million candidates for this year’s examination, adding that so far about 445,081 have been registered.

In a brief chat with journalists during the inspection of Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centres to be used for the 2023 UTME in Kwara state, Oloyede said JAMB had made provision for the registration of 100,000 candidates each day, adding that so far it is only registering 60,000 per day.

He stressed that the board would not extend the deadline for registration while advising candidates to register within the fixed timeframe.

Registration for this year’s UTME started on 14 January and will end on 14 February. The exam will hold between 29 April and 12 May.
