Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has condemned the attack on supporters of his party in Lagos State on Saturday.

Reports have it that suspected hoodlums attacked LP’s supporters who were said to be on their way to the venue of the party’s presidential campaign rally.

While reacting to the development, Obi via his verified Instagram handle on Saturday, condemned the attack, saying that such political opposition attacks will not be tolerated.

The former Anambra State Governor said, “I received reports that 4 members of the “Obidient” Family were attacked and injured in Lagos ahead of today’s rally. That incident, premeditated or not, is deeply troubling. Such an act stands vehemently condemned.

“We cannot continue to tolerate attacks on members of the political opposition, often fuelled by the incendiary rhetoric of political leaders. The new Nigeria that we seek is one founded on peace and justice, and the respect for the rule of law.

Meanwhile, reports have it that the LP supporters were attacked around Jakande and Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) areas of the state in attempts to frustrate them from gaining access to the venue of the programme.

The hoodlums suspected to be political party thugs attacked supporters of the Labour Party and some of them were stopped from accessing the TBS venue of the rally.

Videos and pictures shared on social media showed some individuals with bruises, as well as vandalised vehicles purportedly deployed to transport supporters for the various events to be held by the party.

Information in the public domain suggests that one of the major political parties in the country and its presidential candidate could be held responsible for the attacks.
