…Condemns viral audio of traditional ruler issuing threats

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  governorship candidate in Lagos State, Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor has assured Igbara residents in Eti-Osa area of Lagos State of justice, even as he condemned the viral video of a traditional ruler of Igbara community threatening the residents for supporting opposition party in Lagos State.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate berated the action of the royal father describing the move  as desperation of a dying dynasty assuring the residents that he would take up the matter with appropriate authorities.

Gbenga Ogunleye, Head, Media and Communications, JANDOR4GOVERNOR Campaign Organisation in a press statement on Sunday noted that an audio clip making round in the social media, where some identified leaders of the All Progressives  Congress  (APC) in Igbara community in Eti Osa Local Government Area of the state summoned some residents and business owners in the community to a meeting where he threatened to evict them from their residences and business premises if they fail to vote for the ruling party  in the forthcoming general elections, pointing out that the move is a threat to democracy.

“This is one among several cases of threat to life and intimidation of voters in other local government areas known to be the strongholds of the PDP.

“We hereby call on the police to investigate and invite these identified APC members for questioning to forestall breakdown of law and order in the community.

The statement further reads, “It is pertinent to note that this development is in violation of the section 93 (1) of Electoral Law which states that – “A party, candidate, aspirant, or person or group of persons shall not directly or indirectly threaten any person with the use of force or violence during any political campaign in order to compel that person or any other person to support or refrain from supporting a political party or candidate”. It also stated in subsection (2) that “A political party, candidate, aspirant, person or group of persons that contravenes the provisions of this section commits an offence and is liable on conviction.

“It is of public knowledge that the abysmal performance of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led government has put the APC in an abyss of public opprobrium and the good people of Lagos State are barely enduring the remaining days of this government in office as they anticipate the activation of their resolve to effect a change in government in the state via the ballot in March 11, 2023.” Ogunleye added,
