Nigerian artists Burna Boy, Tems, Asake, Fireboy DML, Ruger and others won 12 categories of the Soundcity MVP awards on Saturday night.

The event which was held at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre in Lagos was hosted by South African actress Pearl Thusi and featured electrifying performances from Gyakie, Arya Starr, Bad Boy Timz, Seyi Vibez, Ruger, and Black Sherif.

Burna Boy won the ‘African Artist of the Year’ award, confirming his self-acclaimed African giant status.

Rema secured the ‘Digital Artist of the Year’ award while Ruger was recognised as the ‘Best New MVP’.

Asake won the ‘Male MVP’ award and Tems won the ‘Female MVP’ award.

Oxlade won the ‘Listeners Choice’ award with ‘Ku Lo Sa’ while South African artist Costa Titch won the ‘Viewer’s Choice’ awards with ‘Big Flexa’ and ‘Buga’ by Kizz Daniel and Tekno won the ‘Song of the Year’ award.

South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa walked away with the ‘African DJ of the Year’ and the ‘African Producer of the Year’ award went to Magicsticks for Asake’s ‘Organise’.

In the ‘Best Collaboration’ category, Pheelz and Buju won with their song ‘Finesse’, Ghanaian superstar Black Sherif won the award for ‘Best Hip Hop’ and Fireboy DML’s ‘Peru’ remix featuring Ed Sheeran won the ‘Best Pop’ award.

Ajebo Hustlers grabbed the award for the ‘Best Duo’ while ‘Bandana’ by Fireboy DML and Asake grabbed the ‘Video of the Year’ award.

Senegalese-American artist Akon was honoured with the ‘Legend of the Year’ award.
