Three days to the 2023 Nigeria Presidential election, gunmen attacked and set ablaze a Labour Party branded Sienna bus with its occupants at Amaechi Awkunanau in Enugu South Local Government Area, Enugu state.

Eyewitness accounts that the vehicle had two occupants; the Labour party Senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial Zone Barrister Oyibo Chukwu and a driver.

The sad incident happened on Wednesday night after the LP Senatorial candidate and supporters’ campaign in Nkanu West LGA; they were said to be heading home when they were accosted by gunmen and set ablaze.

Barrister Chukwu opponents are Chimaraoke Nnamani of Peoples Democratic Party and Princess Ada Ogbu of the All Progressive Congress.

Burning vehicles with occupants has become an ugly trend in Enugu state as a similar incidence is reported of the campaign vehicle belonging to PDP House of Representative candidate for Enugu North/South Federal constituency, Hon. Offor Chukwuegbo.

Number of casualties is yet to be confirmed but some say not less than 8 persons were burnt in the car.
