Ekiti State government is the victim of a rainstorm that destroyed about 105 buildings mostly residential in the Oke-Ako community in the Ikole local government area in the state.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji stated this while assessing the level of damage caused by the rainstorm in the community and condoled with them over the disaster.

Represented by his deputy, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, was conducted around the affected areas by the Regent of the town, Her Royal Highness Ogunbiyi Tinuade Adebayo, and the chairman of Ajoni local council development area, Hon. Michael Ogungbemi.

According to a statement by the special assistant media to the deputy governor, Victor Ogunje quoted the governor’s representative as expressing gratitude to God that no life was lost during the disaster.

The statement said: “On behalf of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, I sympathize with you on the destruction caused by a rainstorm to many residential buildings and electricity poles in this town, which we believe must have affected the wellbeing of the victims.

“Information at our disposal and on-the-spot assessment revealed that roofs of scores of residential buildings and electricity facilities were destroyed during the stormy rainfall, thereby rendering many homeless and helpless.

“We sympathize with you at this time, be calm since it is a natural disaster that cannot be controlled, but caution must be taken to minimize its effect.

“That was why the administration of Oyebani will soon embark on tree planting programs to save the environment, thereby minimizing the havoc wrecked by the rainstorm on our buildings and the government is ready to support any individual wishing to plant trees.
