The Abakpa community in Enugu East Local Government Area, Enugu state on Monday witnesses a mindless dastard act of destruction of some unfortunate persons’ vehicles and tricycles in the early hours of the day.
Such ugly occurrences on sit-at-home ordered days had subsided hence the scapegoats unsuspecting of the calamity that would befall them as they set out for their day’s activity.
Could the destruction be to enforce the order which had been cancelled by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB or election related? Recall that a Senatorial candidate in the state was burnt alongside his Personal Assistant and others.
What mediated the destruction of lives and ones source of livelihood is still a puzzle to be unraveled.
Eye witness disclosed that in the early hours of Monday, a group of guys swung on unsuspecting motorists at T junction Nike road, Abakpa, shoved the passengers out of the vehicle and set it ablaze; “the guys were shooting rapidly into the air,” He said.
Apart from the 2 vehicles burnt down at the T-junction, 2 Sienna cars and 5 tricycles (Keke) were also burnt in Liberty bus stop also in Abakpa area; 1 jeep and car was also set ablaze at Harmony road from Nike Lake hotel to Adoration ground road.
Recounting the Monday ordeals, some state that a life was lost in all these attacks.
“The hoodlums intercepted an elderly man; they ordered him out of his vehicle but he refused to comply hence they set him and his vehicle ablaze,” eye witness who pleaded anonymous accounts.
However, the Police while confirming the many attacks in the Abakpa area, refutes the death of any in the heinous act.
“No casualty is recorded and the Police detectives and tactical operatives are on the trails of the hoodlums who set ablaze vehicles and Tricycles,” DSP Ndukwe Daniel, Public Relations Officer Enugu State Police Command states.
“Meanwhile, one white-colored Toyota Sienna minivan and a black colored Lexus RX300 Jeep used by the armed arsonists to perpetrate the act have been recovered.”
The Police PRO then enjoins members of the public to relay credible information to aid early crackdown of the hoodlums.
