A most-wanted Nigerian human trafficker in Italy has been extradited from Abuja to Rome to serve 13 years imprisonment.

According to reports, the 48-year-old woman, identified as Joy Jeff, has been wanted in Italy since 2010 for crimes including human trafficking and running a prostitution ring.

She had been sentenced to 13 years in prison in absentia by the Italian authorities.

Jeff played a leading role in trafficking women to Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, where they were forced into prostitution by violence and threats, reports say.

The successful extradition was made possible by a treaty signed by Nigeria and Italy in 2020 and the excellent collaboration between both countries.

The process started immediately following her arrest on June 4, 2022, in Nigeria by the local intelligence departments. The arrest was facilitated by an international warrant issued by Italy.

A video clip released by the Italian police and shared by The PUNCH showed Jeff being flown from the Nigerian capital, Abuja to Ciampino airport in Rome where she was taken away in a wheelchair by police.
