Six persons lost their lives in a fatal road accident involving a Toyota Hiace Commercial Bus and a Howo-Sino Truck on Thursday morning at CBN Bus Stop Trans Ekulu area, along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

Describing the incident as sad and avoidable, the Commissioner of Police Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani cautions drivers to exercise utmost patience and care while driving and desist from reckless driving so as to safeguard their lives and that of their passengers.

The Commissioner confirmed that six persons lost their lives in the accident while the driver of the truck is at large.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the Commercial Bus, with registration number: XL 884 ENU, driven by one Simon Umeh (male) and loaded with five (5) passengers, was heading to New Market Enugu, when it had a Head-on-collision with the Truck coming from the opposite direction, while attempting to overtake a smoky vehicle,” DSP Ndukwe, PPRO Enugu state Command wrote.

The commercial bus driver and five (5) passengers were taken to hospital where they were confirmed dead; their corpses have been deposited in the mortuary for preservation.

Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest the truck driver who fled the scene of event before the arrival of the Police.
