BlogColumnsLaw & JusticeNigeriaOpinionPoliticsDeadly Combination of Weponized Poverty, Elites and Judicial Rascality

For non Nigerians, it’s very difficult to believe that a human being will sell his or her inalienable Right to Vote for mere 10 cups of rice or 10 packets of Indomie or 2,000 Naira.

When you take a closer and dispassionate look at what happened during the House of Assembly Election of last Saturday in Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Anaocha and most Local Government Areas of Anambra State, you begin to understand the devastating and horrific effect of WEPONISED POVERTY in Nigeria in general and Igbo Nation in particular by the so-called elites.

“Weaponised Poverty turns many people into brutes, makes them make poor rational choices and remolds them into willing tools in the hands of desperate politicians, with devastating effects on the society”.

For Jesse Jackson, one of the most revered Civil Rights Activist ever lived, “Poverty is a Weapon of Mass Destruction”.

In Kenya, their elites provide employment opportunities to their youth and adult population alike. But in Nigeria, the elites provide poverty and unemployment to unsuspecting youths and adults. That way, they CANNOT think right or think at all. And, this is the kind of toxic environment that enables so-called elites to hold on to power.

Well, if you think that Elite Weaponization of Poverty is bad, please think again.

A more worrisome issue is Elite Rascality. Look at what happened and still happening in Abia, Enugu and Lagos where the so-called elites are trying so desperately to hold on to power that they do NOT deserve. They are killing innocent citizens that they took solemn oath to protect. All in the name of Gubar Elections. But be rest assured, their success will only be temporary because at the end power will situate where it belongs ………… ‘we the people’.

Elite Weaponization of Poverty and Elite Rascality are bad. But Judicial Rascality is deadly. It is the beginning of the end for any democracy because no democratic government can survive Judicial Rascality and indiscretion. Particularly in this day and age of Social Media.

His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, is in Court to reclaim his stolen Labour Party Mandate. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of PDP is also in Court. And, the Supreme Court of Nigeria is the final arbiter. As a lawyer, this gives me constipation. And, for good reasons.

But I am very hopeful that the Supreme Court of Nigeria, just like the 2017 Supreme Court of Kenya, will step up and discharge her constitutional duties as the Last-Man-Standing. If they don’t, we’re in trouble as a country because what is brewing in Nigeria today is an open invitation to civil unrest that Nigeria cannot afford.
