Professor Joachim Omeje has declared Chukwu Kelvin Chizoba, Senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial zone under Labour Party winner of election conducted on Saturday 18th March 2023.

Chukwu Kelvin gathered a total of sixty-nine thousand, one hundred and thirty-six (69,136) votes while Chimaroke Nnamani of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, got a total of forty-eight thousand, seven hundred and one (48,701) votes.

Chukwu Kelvin is the younger brother to Oyibo Chukwu who was gruesomely murdered and burnt alongside his Personal Assistant on their way back from campaign; Kelvin was afterwards nominated by Labour Party to replace his brother, Oyibo.

Chukwu Kelvin is from Amuri in Nkanu West Local Government Area in Enugu State.

Chukwu defeated Nnamani who has been in politics since 1999. Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani was has served 2 tenures as Governor of Enugu State 1999-2007 and subsequently as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2007-2011; he was re-elected in 2019.
