Ayodeji Makun, alias AY, says his long-running fallout with his colleague Bright Okpocha, also known as Basketmouth, is because the latter refused to pay him N30,000 for an event he stood in for him.

AY made the revelation in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, on the latest episode of his podcast, #WithChude.

He narrated how he had represented Basketmouth on an occasion because he had other engagements and when his payment was not forthcoming, he had to reach out to Basketmouth who told him the organisers were yet to pay because they weren’t pleased with his performance.

He told Chude, “I got this job and the people weren’t too happy to see me because they were expecting a Basketmouth to come. Long story short, the guy was later happy after the performance. There was an exchange of contact. Then I left.

“Two weeks running, I hadn’t seen N30,000. Because I didn’t see the N30,000, I was starving in Iponri. I decided to ask (Basketmouth) for the N30,000 and he said this person hasn’t remitted. He said they were not happy.

AY said he was left with no choice but to contact the organisers of the event who informed him that Basketmouth has already been paid before the event.

He added, “I said ‘Okay, is that the situation?’ So I forwarded this one’s message to this one and vice versa. So they now started fighting each other and all of that.

“I didn’t do that because I wanted to get at Basketmouth per se. I did that because I was hungry, I was hustling and needed food on the table at the time.”

In August 2021, Basketmouth, telling his own side of the story, said the feud arose because AY “messed with loyalty” by divulging a piece of information he shared personally with him.

“He came into my space and messed around with loyalty. He said something that he wasn’t supposed to say that was going to now cause a rift between me and that person,” Basketmouth said on ‘Bounce Radio’ in a chat with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the host of the reality TV show, Big Brother Naija.
