Disturbed with the incessant attacks on Benue state communities by suspected marauding herdsmen, His Royal Majesty, Och’Idoma Agaba-Idu Elaigwu John, and Chairman, Idoma Area Traditional Council in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) have summoned an emergency meeting held on Monday in Otukpo.

The meeting of Idoma stakeholders resolved to set up a high-powered and expert committee to find a lasting solution to security challenges facing Benue state.

According to a statement issued by Onuminya Samuel Odoba, Chief Palace Scribe and Media Aide to Och’Idoma, after a thorough deliberation resolved that a specific day would be fixed for all sons and daughters of the kingdom worldwide to embark on prayer and fasting.

The stakeholders also agreed that “the youths and communities would be engaged and sensitized not to take laws into their hands. But to always stay vigilant for odd faces and strange movements within their communities.

“This is aimed at curbing youth restiveness and related vices within the Kingdom. It would primarily be a central tool for women and girls’ capacity development, seeing that this ugly trend has rendered many women widows and many children orphans.”

The meeting also resolved that the committee would engage the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), to present their case for onward transmission to the President.”

The establishment of the Idoma Development, Economic, and Security Committee (IDESC) to advocate the Idoma cause from an organic and organized perspective also came into the fore.
