The Bauchi State government has described as unacceptable the action of some clerics who incites the public in the state under the guise of religious preaching.

To this end, the government has threatened to sanction any cleric found making inciting statements in the state.

Ibrahim Kashim, Secretary to Bauchi State Government, who gave the warning after an emergency meeting with heads of security agencies at the Government House in Bauchi, expressed displeasure with the mode of preaching by some Bauchi-based clerics.

According to him, religion is a sensitive issue, and warned that the government would not allow such actions to cause conflict and disunity among different sects, stressing that the government will ensure preachers respect the views of one another to guarantee peaceful coexistence.

Kashim directed security agents to deal with a notorious group called Sara Suka that terrorizes residents of the state capital.
