Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the just cocluded general elections, on Sunday paid a visit to Muslims in Anambra State, reiterating the fact that Nigerians are free to  live in any part of the country where he or she is found.

According to him, the conviction made him as Anambra State Governor in 2006, to provide maximum security and rebuild affected Mosques, during the crisis that took place in the state.

The former Anambra State Governor made the remarks during the celebration of the Eid El Fitr with Muslim Faithful in the South-East state, where he also presented gift items to the faithful.

Obi made a tweet in his handle where he wrote,  “Today at Central Mosque, Onitsha, I joined the Muslim Community in Anambra State to celebrate and share in the joy of Eid el Fitr.

“I am grateful for the fraternal and convivial moments we spent, especially for their kind words and prayers for a New Nigeria”.

He recalled moments of joy he shared with the faithful, adding “Happily, they recounted how I, as the then Governor of Anambra State, rebuilt their Mosque when it was burnt down, and provided maximum security for them during the crisis that erupted in the State in 2006. Since then, I have remained supportive of the Community and maintained a close relationship with them”.

He used the opportunity to express sadness over the fate of Nigerians trapped in war-torn Sudan and wondered why they have not been evacuated.

He said, “While we appreciate the extreme challenges in Sudan, we deeply implore the Federal Government to expedite efforts to rescue about 4,000 Nigerians that are mostly students in Sudan to safety.

“The Sudanese crisis is not a natural disaster that happened suddenly, it will be sad to lose any Nigerian to the conflict, especially now that we need all hands to create and sustain a New Nigeria.

“Since it is the statutory responsibility of the Federal Government to protect Nigerians at home and abroad, it is important that we attend to such issues with more deserving proactive and commitment as the life of every Nigerian is sacred and important. A New Nigeria is really imperative and Possible”, Obi said.

Also on Sunday Obi felicitated with seven-year-old young Richard Aridegbe from Surulere, Lagos who invited him to his birthday today, April 23, 2024. The young Aridegbe is the son of the LP Woman Leader in Surulere, Lagos.

“The boy is Obidient and campaigned in Lagos for Peter Obi and Labour Party with his mother.

Obi could not attend physically but sent a happy birthday message via tweet and he believes that such a message will surely inspire more younger people who are instinctively Obidient and socially conscious.
