Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to President Mohammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, said that Nigeria survived economic stress during the pandemic, brought about by COVID-19 due to the support received by the government from two prominent agencies of government.
According to him the two agencies are the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigeria Customs Service.
The President’s aide stated this in Ikeja while delivering his goodwill message at one-day capacity building and training for business editors, finance correspondents and stakeholders in Nigeria’s taxation system.
“When everything collapsed during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the FIRS and Customs that saved the country. They stood out when things like export, import, and manufacturing were not responding.
“They both met their targets and even exceeded their expectations. The FIRS for instance, is a star institution,” Adesina said.
