Barely one month before the inauguration of the next Assembly, the Anambra State House of Assembly has appointed some members to vacant leadership positions in the House. In a statement before naming the new appointees into vacant principal office positions, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, said the new leadership has been approved by the APGA caucus in the Assembly.

From the list, Hon. Pete Ibida, member representing Njikoka II constituency was named as the Majority Leader of the House, while Hon. Emeka Aforka remains the Deputy Majority Leader of the House. The Majority Leader position has remained vacant since the demise of Hon. Nnamdi Okafor, the former majority leader of the Assembly. Also, Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche was named as the Chief Whip of the House. The position has been vacant since the former Chief Whip, Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu, left APGA and joined APC where he was the party’s House of Representatives candidate for his Njikoka, Dunukofia and Anaocha federal constituency. Finally, Hon. Arthur Chiekwu of Idemili North constituency was elevated to the position of Deputy Chief Whip, which was formerly occupied by Hon. Beverly Ikeapzu-Nkemdiche.

Meanwhile, it does appear that none of the principal officers of Anambra State 7th Assembly, will be joining the coming Anambra State 8th Assembly.

In another development, the House has commended the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and security agencies in Anambra State for their efforts in restoring the safety within the state. In a motion moved by Hon. Onyebuchi Offor, the member representing Ekwusigo and Chairman of House Committee on Security, overwhelmingly supported by members of the House, it was resolved that governor Soludo and security agencies are commended for the three major breakthrough recorded within the week against criminals in Anambra State. The House further encouraged all stakeholders to continue pushing till sanity and order is completely restored across the state.
