The Anambra State Federal Secretariat built and completed by the Federal Government in Awka has been commissioned today, by the Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige. The Secretariat named after Engr. Ebere Ofunneamaka Okeke, who was Nigeria’s first civil engineer and the first female Head of Service of the Federation, is now open for use by federal government Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Anambra State.

During the commissioning of the secretariat, the Nnewi born Engr. Ebere Okeke was represented by Hon. Prince Chukwudi Orizu, former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, as she was inescapably absent. Engr. Ebere Okeke served meritoriously as a federal civil servant and was at a time the deputy director of federal ministry of water resources in early 1990s. Thereafter, she became the Director of the ministry of water resources, from where she was appointed the permanent secretary of the ministry, her last position before she resumed as the Head of Service of the Federation. After these long years of dedicated service, it is generally believed that she deserved the honour of naming the secretariat after her.

Construction of Ebere Ofunneamaka Okeke Federal Secretariat Awka, Anambra State, was commenced a few years ago and was handled by Anambra State born Chief Cosmos Agagbo of Cosco Investment Nigeria Ltd. In his brief interface with the media, Chief Agagbo attested to the quality of work and finishing at the secretariat which he affirmed would stand the test of time. Two other federal secretariats were equally commissioned today in Bayelsa state and Nasarawa state. The 2nd Niger Bridge as well as other federal government projects were commissioned today.

In his remarks during the commissioning of Ebere Ofunneamaka Okeke Federal Secretariat Anambra State, the Minister of Labour Dr. Chris Ngige, said that Engr. Ebere Okeke is deserving of the honour done to her by naming the secretariat after her. Dr. Ngige who came to commission the secretariat from the occasion of opening the 2nd Niger Bridge for use, commended the federal government and President Mohammadu Buhari, for the two significant projects in Anambra State; Ebere Ofunneamaka Okeke Federal Secretariat and the 2nd Niger Bridge. “This building was constructed by Federal Government. Anambra State government donated land. We have gone to commission the 2nd Niger Bridge. After the civil war, the bridge’s integrity was compromised. Since then, government after government, they have promised and failed. But President Buhari has done it. When I was governor here, the then president sent some people and said they were coming for the 2nd Niger bridge, but they didn’t do it”, Dr. Ngige said. Speaking on political choice of Ndi Igbo, Ngige admonished that Ndi Igbo must play politics of alliance, and must stop putting their eggs in one basket. “Ndi Igbo must go back to politics of alliance”, he said. He also urged Anambra people to continue to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The Secretary to the Government of Anambra State, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, the Head of Service of Anambra State, Barr. Okwy Igwegbe, Minister of State, Science and Technology, Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, Director of National Orientation Agency Anambra State, Mr. Uchendu, Heads of security agencies / paramilitary establishments or their representatives, traditional rulers among many others were in attendance to witness the commissioning of the Federal Secretariat. I suggest you edit this post and address her correctly. The name on the complex clearly says “EBELE”, but you have deliberately called her EBERE throughout your article. It makes reading the entire article difficult.

A simple Google search would have cleared any doubt you had in the correct spelling of her name. They cannot all be wrong.

Her name is EBELE Ofunneamaka Okeke.
    Thank you.
