President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, commissioned eight projects completed by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing across the country.

The projects which consist of three major bridges, three federal secretariats, a road and a new headquarters are part of the current “administration’s determination to upgrade and expand the nation’s stock of infrastructure”, according to Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the President on media and publicity.

The federal secretariats commissioned are in Awka, Anambra State; Gusau, Zamfara State; and Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Adesina’s statement reads: “The first of the federal secretariats at Awka is located at Executive Business District Layout, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State and is situated on 5.106 hectares of land. The project was first awarded on December 9, 2011, but was practically completed and taken over by the Ministry of Works and Housing on July 14, 2022.

“The second, Federal Secretariat Gusau, Zamfara State is located at Unguwan Dan Lawan, off Sokoto By-Pass Road, Gusau, Zamfara State. The project is situated on 7.5 hectares of land and was awarded also on the 9th but was practically completed and taken over by the Ministry on November 30, 2022.

“The third is the Federal Secretariat Yenagoa, which is located at Alamieyeseigha Road, in Bayelsa State. It is situated on 7.5 hectares of land and was awarded on December 9, 2011 but was practically completed and taken over by the Ministry on November 30, 2022.”

Other projects that were commissioned are the Loko-Oweto Bridge across River Benue which links Benue and Nasarawa States; the Ikom Bridge in Cross River State; the new corporate headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service in Abuja; and the completed section of the over 200 kilometres of Kano-Kaduna dual carriage expressway.

Also commissioned was the Second Niger Bridge linking Asaba, Delta State to Onitsha, Anambra State, and other regions in the South East, which was named Muhammadu Buhari Bridge.

The naming of the 1.6 kilometres bridge after the President was confirmed by Tolu Ogunlesi, special assistant to the President on digital and new media.

The commissioning of the projects comes six days before the expiration of President Buhari’s tenure.
