The Edo state government has offered automatic employment to Aminat Yusuf, the best-graduating student of the Lagos State University, LASU, in the 2021/2022 academic year.
The Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed this on Monday.
“I am honoured to offer our record-setting Miss Yusuf Aminat automatic employment in the state’s public service,” the Governor’s post on Twitter reads.
“To complement our efforts to create the best work environment, we intend to attract and retain the best talent. Miss Aminat, we remain proud of you. The world is your oyster.”
Corroborating the Governor’s statement, Anthony Okungbowa, the head of service in the state, said the automatic employment was to avoid “losing her.”
Okungbowa said the state government has already “reached out to her parents and spoken with them” and “they have accepted our offer of employment.”
He added, “She has not done her law school program and her youth service. We are proposing to write to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) so that she will serve with us here in Edo State after her law school program so that we don’t run the risk of losing her.”
Yusuf, who hails from Edo State, emerged as the top student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA, of 5.0 in the institution’s law degree programme.
She is the first student to graduate with a perfect CGPA of 5.0 in the institution’s 40-year history.
Obaseki’s offer of employment is one of the many accolades Yusuf has received.
At the university’s 26th convocation ceremony last Thursday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State donated N10 million to her.
A Lagos monarch, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom, Oba Sulaimon Adeshina Raji also gave her N2 million and promised her full sponsorship through Law School.
The vice-chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, had also said last week that Yusuf will be rewarded with a N500,000 cash prize.
