The year 2023 Convention of association of Nnewi indigenes resident in the United States of America, more commonly known as Nnewi USA or NUSA, has commenced in New York. This year’s convention which started on Thursday July 6th with arrival of participants across the US and many other parts of the world, is the 26th annual national convention of Nnewi community in the United States.

For this year’s convention, the theme is “Urbanization and Security Challenge in Nnewi,” and it is designed to have Nnewi community in the US see how they can contribute to fix the twin burden of urbanization as well as security concerns which only a few months ago, was a major source of apprehension in Nnewi. Also this year, the convention planning committee under the chairmanship of Prof. Chris Ulasi, developed interesting programmes to keep attendees glued to the end. These programmes range from practical possible solutions to the challenge of urbanization and security in Nnewi, to tour of New York City, entertainment and cultural dance, among many other activities designed to make the convention a complete package.

The 2023 convention is the first organised by the current national executive of NUSA led by the national president of the association Dr. Julian Anigbogu.

As expected, this year’s convention has in attendance key individuals who travelled from Nigeria for the convention. Among them are, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, senator representing Anambra South zone. He is billed to speak on security situation in Nnewi. Also in the convention is Bishop Ndubisi Obi, Bishop of Anglican Communion Nnewi Diocese. Similarly, the Nnewi Crown Prince Obi Orizu is on ground for the convention in New York. An Industrialist of repute Chief Ajulu Uzodike Chairman of Cutix industries, is in attendance and he is the keynote speaker for this year’s convention. Similarly, Ikenna Ifejiofor founder of Jolly-Jolly noodles is also in the convention.

NUSA has been, and remains strategic in shaping the direction of Nnewi in many respects for years. Till date, NUSA remains the major Nnewi diaspora forum with notable impact on the affairs of Nnewi back at home. This year’s convention is expected to have a remarkable impact back home when it is concluded on Sunday.
