The new Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Remi Adeoye, has charged criminals in Anambra State to leave immediately or turn a leaf, as the police is left with no option than to flush criminals out, in keeping with the mandate given by the new Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. According to CP Remi Adeoye, “We have no delight if anyone loses their lives, but if that is what it takes to protect the people of Anambra State, we will stop at no obstacle to achieve this mandate given to us by the Inspector-General of Police.”

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, CP Remi Adeoye who only resumed a few days earlier noted that two kidnappers have been gunned down while six other members of the gang escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds. The kidnapped victim was also rescued and arms were recovered during the operation at Ichida community in Anaocha local government area of Anambra state. Some of the arms recovered are one AK47 rifle, two pump action, 32 live ammunitions and two AK47 magazines. “Preliminary information reveals that the deadly gang of eight operating with two vehicles – a grey Highlander jeep and a white Lexus 350, abducted the victim in her ash Highlander jeep.” The Cp further assured that “investigation is ongoing to track the remaining gang members.” There was also a similar incident around Uga-Ezinifite road in Aguata local government where suspicious two vehicles wanted to beat security screening and opened fire in the process, but they were given a hot chase by the police and the gang abandoned their vehicle which has blood stains. “A search conducted inside the vehicle produced two automatic pump action guns, 11 live cartridges, walkie-talkie, cell phone and other incriminating items,” CP Adeoye noted.  The CP then called on private and public hospitals to admit anyone with bullet wounds, but report such person[s] to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, CP Remi Adeoye also announced the redeployment of the DPO of Division B police station in Awka Metropolis, who was recently alleged to be involved in extortion of members of the public. “Under my watch, the police in Anambra will work on its mandate to restore peace, and not to extort the people and any officer found wanting will be made to face the consequences therein”, CP Adeoye declares.
