…Says Nigerians don’t deserve ill treatment from govt.
The Labour Party has predicted harder times for Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Obiora Ifoh, LP acting National Publicity Secretary explained that “the latest adjustment in the petrol pump price is just the beginning of hard times Nigerians will be facing under the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration.”
According to a press statement on Tuesday, the opposition party had earlier warned that “the bourgeoisie government in place can only enrich the upper class and inflict penury on the proletariat.”
The party reacted to the development on Tuesday when Nigerians woke to an increase in the pump price of fuel from N527, to N617.
In recent times the country has been plunged to a spike of about 16 percent headline inflation due to the removal of subsidy on petrol, with attendant increase in the cost of goods and services.
To cushion the impact of subsidy removal on citizens, the federal government announced plans to give out N8,000 palliatives to 12 million Nigerians, a move that has generated controversy.
The LP in the Tuesday statement condemned the government’s palliative policy, noting “You offer a paltry N8000 to a family of five and extract all they have laboured for through obnoxious policies.
“Nigerians don’t deserve what they’re getting from the present government. The Labour Party condemns the attitude of the government to its people. This is even coming at a time when the Nigeria currency has continued to devalue under the watch of this government.
“We’re however optimistic that Nigeria will overcome the taskmaster of our time. We will soon witness the Promised Land,” the statement added.
