The Chairman of Acobarry Foundation, Hon. Onyedika Chukwuma, has concluded plans to offer an international scholarship worth about N20 million to an underprivileged student of Ndiakwu Otolo, in Nnewi, Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State, to proceed for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.

In a letter addressed to the leadership of Ndiakwu community in May this year, signed by Mr. Onyedika Chukwuma the Chairman of Acobarry Foundation, he informed the community of his intentions and asked for their assistance in nominating the most qualified candidate for the scholarship. “Acobarry Foundation wishes to officially inform you and the entire Ndiakwu community of its desire to award a twenty million Naira worth of scholarship to a resident of Ndiakwu community, who is a degree holder and interested in pursuing masters degree in the UK,” a part of the letter reads.

After their due diligence, the leadership of Ndiakwu community had responded in a letter signed by the national chairman and secretary of the community, expressing their profound gratitude to the Chairman of Acobarry Foundation and also sending names of people who in their judgment, are qualified for pursuit of masters degree on scholarship, abroad. However, the community had sent in six names that they found deserving of the scholarship award. But out of these six persons, only one of them will be selected for the N20 million Naira Acobarry Foundation scholarship for masters degree in the UK.

Reacting to Chairman of Acobarry Foundation had said that the scholarship offer would be based on offer of admission by UK university. “Out of these number, the first person the university will give admission based on their good result, we would pay the tuition fees immediately and request for his/her visa”, Onyedika Chukwuma said.

Indigenous fully sponsored scholarship is not strange to Nnewi as many reputable businessmen in the past had given scholarships to bright but indigent students. Many people in the past were trained through school by their kindred association. However today, the gesture is a rarity and nearing extinction. Therefore, Onyedika Chukwuma’s gesture is both a reawakening and a call to duty in Nnewi and beyond.
