Borno State Government has targeted more than 1.8 million vulnerable people across the state with a new palliative initiative to cushion the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, who flagged off the distribution exercise at Muna IDP camp in Jere Local Government Area, said the state has keyed into the presidential food emergency declaration.

He said under the initiative, each eligible beneficiary will receive 0N5,00 cash, a bag of rice, a bag of beans, and one wrapper for women and the initial distribution was conducted in Gwoza and Baga, Cross Kauwa, and Doron Baga communities in Kukawa LGA.

“The initiative was aimed at reducing the hardship occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal for the average of 300,000 most vulnerable families.

“I want to urge the people of Borno State to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I want you to understand that subsidy is not sustainable, we understand that people will feel the impact adversely at the initial stage, but in the long run, it will be beneficial to all of us”, Zulum said.

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum has also distributed 400 houses to vulnerable IDPs from Maibukarti, Jibrinti, Mainari Shuwa, Mainari Kanuri, and Tilori communities displaced by Boko Haram insurgents.
