Men of Operation Farauta in Yola, Adamawa State has tortured to death a 17 years old Abdullahi Tukur Abba Popularly called Abdallah, resident of Wuro-Dole ward in Yola South local Government area over allegedly stealing cellphone (i-Phone 7).
The security outfit comprises Soldiers, Civil Defence, Police, and other voluntary organisations was set up in 2019 by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri with a mandate to fight banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities of Shilla group armed with dangerous weapons and intimidated residents in major cities in the state.
It was gathered that the young boy was reported to the security outfit by one Shuaibu Wambai Zumo, a Staff of the Adamawa State Scholarship Board Yola for allegedly stealing a handset (i-Phone 7) belonging to his wife.
Abdallah, a final year secondary school student was said to have whisked away on the order of Shuaibu Wambai Zumo by men of Operation Farauta to unknown destination and later brought him back later after tortured to parents’ house handcuffs to effect searching for the missing phone.
It was learnt that the innocent child was said to have lied of stealing the phone to spare his life.
It was gathered that after the searching, Abdallah was released to his parents, but due to gravity of the tortured he was rushed to hospital for medication.
At the Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital Yola, he vomited and remained unconscious for four days before he died Wednesday, 9th August, 2023.
Contacted, the spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje,  confirmed the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed that CID should hasten the investigation, gathered all evidences and whosoever found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The father of the deceased, Dr. Tukur Abba, lecturer with Modibbo Adama University Yola, called on authorities concern to ensure that justice is done to the deceased to serve as deterrent to others.
