The Governors of the South Eastern states of Nigeria on Thursday announced their resolve to fight insecurity in the region decisively, individually or collectively, in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria and other stakeholders.

Senator Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the South East Governors’ forum stated this while presenting the communiqué of their meeting to newsmen at the Government House Enugu.

The Governors also declared war against perpetrators of insecurity in the region; “we wish to categorically state that the perpetrators of insecurity and their sponsors in our region are criminals and should not be seen as legitimate agitators, therefore on arrest they should be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.”

The Chairman further announced the forum’s resolve to hold a security and economic summit for the region; the date for the summit he said will be announced soon.

The Governors of the five South Eastern states were present: Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra State, Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Senator Hope Uzodinma, Gov. of Imo State and Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum.
