Zamfara State Government has closed eight cattle markets in five local government areas due to persistent security challenges in the state.
The affected cattle markets are, Danjibga and Kunchin Kalgo in Tsafe local government, Bagega and Wuya cattle markets in Anka, Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru, Dauran in Zurmi and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim local government area respectively.
The state Commissioner of Information and Culture Mannir Mu’azu Haidara disclosed this in a statement that said the government decided to temporarily close several cattle markets (Kara) in five local government areas, as part of measures to address prevailing insecurity
“The decision to temporarily close the cattle markets (Kara) was taken during the State Security Council Meeting held last Thursday, due to nefarious activities of selling and loading of rustled cattle by suspected members of armed bandits.
“The State Security Council assured the general public and other relevant stakeholders of its commitment to monitor and review the progress, with the aim of restoring peace in the affected cattle market areas.” the statement said.
The statement stressed the need for strict compliance with the closure by security agencies and the Directorate of Animal Health and Livestock Development.
