The Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, ADSEMA Mohammed Suleiman, confirmed that eight dead bodies have been recovered from a capsized canoe in Yola South Local Government Area.

Recall that a boat carrying 23 passengers capsized last Friday in Njuwa Lake at Rugange, a village in the Yola South LGA Adamawa State. The government confirmed one dead as search operations continued.

According to him, eight people had been rescued while searching for the remaining passengers was ongoing, assured that rescue efforts were on to determine the fate of the passengers that were yet to be traced.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa State government has condoled the bereaved families who lost of their loved ones in the canoe accident.

State Deputy Governor, Prof Kaletapwa Farauta who led the government delegation on a sympathy visit to families of the affected people, described the loss not to the families alone to but the entire state.

Farauta stated that a directive had been given for the provision of life jackets for canoe users in the area to safeguard the lives of passengers.

The Deputy Governor advised residents of riverine communities, other canoe users, and operators of canoes to monitor weather conditions, including the likelihood of rain and storm before embarking on any journey. storms
