President Bola Tinubu has nominated Olayemi Cardoso as the new governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, pending confirmation by the Senate.
This is according to a statement from the President’s special adviser (media and publicity), Ajuri Ngelale late Thursday.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the nomination of Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso to serve as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for a term of five (5) years at the first instance, pending his confirmation by the Nigerian Senate,” the statement read.
The presidential spokesperson added that the President equally nominated four new deputy governors, namely Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor and Bala M. Bello.
Cardoso’s appointment comes three months after Godwin Emefiele was suspended as the CBN governor and was subsequently arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for investigations over allegations of corruption and mismanagement.
