The military in a joint operation with other security agencies rescued 18 persons abducted at Kanya, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government, Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu-Bena, while confirming the operation to journalists said the abducted persons were rescued at Karen Bena as the bandits attempted to cross into Zamfara State at about 5:30 p.m Thursday.

“Many villagers have started returning to their homes and continued with their farming activities after the feat recorded by the military.

“Four days ago the army and Airforce neutralized many bandits as they were trying to move into Zamfara State through the Kebbi/Zamfara border.”

Aliyu-Bena noted that the rescue of 18 persons who were earlier kidnapped by the bandits a few days ago was a major boost to the military operations in the area.

“We are grateful to the state government for boosting the morale of security personnel towards protecting lives and property of people in the state,” he said.

In a similar development, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Jigawa Command, says it has rescued eight victims of human trafficking in the state.

The NIS Comptroller in the state, Mr Samson Agada, stated this at a news conference in Dutse on Friday, saying the victims were intercepted by men of the command on Wednesday at Dutse motor park, Dutse Local Government Area.

“Upon their interception at Dutse motor park and subsequent profiling and interrogation, the young victims told us that they were told to inform any security agent that they were in Jigawa to act as vendors for supplement drugs for a company called New Life International.

“On further interrogation, we discovered that their agent only used this deception to get them trafficked across the border from Jigawa to the Niger Republic and onward to North Africa where they boarded them in a ship via the Atlantic Ocean to Europe,” he said.

Agada explained that the victims, consisting of six females and two males aged between 16 and 24, were apprehended on May 5, at about 7 a.m. on their way to Europe.

According to the comptroller, six of the victims were from Benue, while two were from Abia and Ebonyi states.

Agada added that three persons suspected to have arranged for the victim’s transit have been apprehended by the command.

He said the victims and the three suspected agents would soon be handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) for further action.

“We are therefore using this opportunity to appeal to all parents to watch over their children from being deceived by such agents who make bogus deceits to young children for a better life abroad, not minding the harsh consequences of going through the illegal routes with attendance hazards,” he added.
