The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Monday sacked the Senator representing Adamawa-North Senatorial District, Elisha Ishaku Abbo, from the National Assembly.

The appellate court has consequently declared Amos Yohanna, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the validly elected Senator for the zone.

Reacting, Abbo, in his official Facebook page has appealed to his supporters and constituents to remain calm.

Elisha Abbo’s ordeal started after the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections, when his victory was challenged at the Tribunal by Rev. Amos Yohanna.

In his petition marked EPT/AD/SEN/02/2023, Rev Yohanna had alleged that the election of Sen. Abbo was invalid by reasons of corrupt practices or non-compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

Yohanna averred that Sen. Abbo was not duly elected by majority of the lawful votes cast during the election, alleging over voting at various polling units, false entries, alterations and cancellation of votes at several polling units.

The PDP candidate argued that some alterations and cancellation were not signed by the presiding officers of the polling units, and prayed the tribunal to set aside the election of Abbo.
