Crime & SecurityNewsNigeriaDSS hands Emefiele over to EFCC for further investigation

Past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele has moved from the frying pan to fire in his ordeal with the federal government.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, picked up the ex-CBN Governor shortly after he was released by the Department of State Services, DSS, last Thursday.

It is to be recalled that Emefiele has been in the custody of the DSS since June 10, 2023, a day after President Bola Tinubu rescinded his appointment as the CBN governor.

According to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Emefiele was suspended amid a probe into his tenure as the CBN governor.

On July 25, Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court granted Emefiele a bail of N20 million. Yet, the DSS held him hostage regardless.

Pilot News gathered that the EFCC arrested the former CBN Governor to grill him over alleged misappropriation of funds among other things during his nine-year term as head of the apex bank.

Emefiele’s trial is expected to come up on November 14, 2023.
