The gyration sensation, Tony-Oneweek, who 25 years ago took the then emerging ‘new Nigerian music industry’ by surprise with his set of gyration tunes that went on to dominate the market for years, is set for a comeback. Tony’s “Onwa December,” became the symbol of Christmas season festivities, for so many years. The release of his “You go bow” album in 1998, almost immediately conferred on Tony the status of an icon of a unique African music brand and subsequently, he was featured in many national and international tours by different brands, between 1999 and 2010.
However, in 2011, Tony-Oneweek was elected to represent Idemili North constituency, in Anambra State House of Assembly. After leaving office in 2015, Tony has served as a senior aide and later as a Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano. However, despite these years of his absence, the vacuum his genre of music left remained void.
As energetic and as young as ever, Tony’s re-launch is slated to commence on the 18th of November 2023 just before his birthday on the 19th, with marking 25th anniversary of the release of his hit album. The event will also unveil the remix of the 25 years old album entitled “You go bow”, under a new title, “gyration reboot.” This heralds the beginning of events that are expected to follow. This event has been supported and sponsored by friends and allies of Tony-Oneweek in various sectors within and outside Nigeria, as a way to celebrate him.
For the November 18th unveiling in Awka Anambra State capital, the occasion is expected to attract some top players in the music and entertainment industry. Tony was also a popular actor in Nollywood. Therefore, Nigerian actors and movie producers are expected at the event. It is also expected to attract top political leaders around the Southeast and beyond, as well businessmen and entrepreneurs.
He is a Technical Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano’s Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, whoonce was a Special Adviser to a former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly.
