A High Court sitting at the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory, on Wednesday, granted bail to the embattled former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele.

The court, in a ruling that was delivered by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, ordered that he should be released to his lawyers who must bring him to court whenever the need arises.

Emefiele has been in detention since June 10, 2023, a day after he was suspended as the CBN governor without trial.

From the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, he was transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on October 26.

“There must be an end to detention without trial,” the judge held.

The judge had on November 2 ordered the unconditional release of Emefiele but the EFCC flouted the order.
