…Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ tops the Afrobeats song chart.

Burna Boy is the highest-ranked Afrobeats artiste of 2023 in the United States, according to Billboard.

Burna Boy, who finished second in 2022, secured this year’s top spot with 26 leading entries throughout the 2023 chart year: November 19, 2022–October 21, 2023.

Rema, one of Nigeria’s most decorated artistes of the year, snagged the silver medal from his seniors in the music industry including Davido and Wizkid who were ranked ninth and fifth respectively.

‘Last year’s champ, Tems, slips to No. 3 on this year’s roundup; despite a fairly quiet year in terms of new music, the singer’s back catalogue – particularly “Free Mind” – ensures she is the chart’s top female act for a second straight year,’ Billboard said in a Tuesday post on its website.

‘Libianca ranks fourth thanks to her monster hit “People,” which logged a stunning 34 weeks at No. 2 on the weekly U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and crossed over to the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, a No. 80 best there.’

Ayra Starr, Ckay, Asake and Oxlade are No. 6, No. 7, No. 8, and No. 10 on the list respectively.

Rema also topped the Billboard Top Afrobeats Songs chart with his global hit song ‘Calm Down’, featuring Selena Gomez. The song reigned for a record-breaking 58 weeks on the weekly US Afrobeats Songs chart.

Libianca’s ‘People’ was second place on the year-end US Afrobeats Songs chart while Tems’ ‘Free Mind’ and ‘Higher’ finished third and ninth respectively.

Other hit songs that made the top ten are ‘Essence’ by Wizkid and Tems (fourth), ‘Last Last’ by Burna Boy (fifth), ‘Love Nwantiti’ by Ckay (sixth), ‘Rush’ by Ayra Starr (seventh), ‘Peru’ by Fireboy DML (eighth) and ‘Ku Lo Sa’ by Oxlade (tenth).

The win for Burna Boy and Rema comes a few days after the inaugural Billboard Afrobeats Awards in the US where Burna Boy was recognised as the best Afrobeats act and ‘Calm Down’ won the award for best Afrobeats song
