The Super Eagles of Nigeria is now ranked the 42nd national team globally after sitting at the 40th position in October.

Sports analysts say the downward movement is because the team failed to beat Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their first two games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria began their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification bid with a 1-1 draw against Lesotho on 16 November. The 19 November game with Zimbabwe also ended in a 1-1 scoreline.

While the underwhelming performance of the Super Eagles cost them on the rankings, Lesotho and Zimbabwe profited from those stalemates.

The Crocodiles of Lesotho climbed five places to No. 148, while The Warriors, Zimbabwe’s national team, jumped one place to No. 124.

Argentina is still the top-ranked team in the world, followed by France. England and Belgium are now 3rd and 4th respectively, while Brazil, takes the 5th position.

In Africa, Nigeria is ranked sixth with Morocco at the top spot. The North African country is followed by Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.
