The Super Falcons has beat Cape Verde with 2-1 at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde in Praia to secure spot in the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In the previous encounter at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja last Thursday, the Nigerian team displayed dominance with a commanding 5-0 victory.
The Super Falcons pressed for an equalizer, Cape Verde maintained their one-goal advantage into halftime, showcasing resilience.
But the second half saw a Nigerian offensive push, with Madugu substituting Okoronkwo for Kanu. Although Okoronkwo initially thought she had leveled the score in the 55th minute, the goal was ruled offside.
Not mindful, she secured her goal seven minutes later with a solo finish, sustaining the five-goal aggregate tally.
Okoronkwo continued to challenge the Cape Verde defense, nearly assisting Toni Payne, who couldn’t beat goalkeeper Jacinta Rodrigues but the breakthrough finally arrived through Ajibade in the 93rd minute.
