The 66 kidnapped victims who were rescued by the army between Thursday and Saturday in Sokoto State have received donations of N16.65 million from Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Among those rescued are nursing mothers and their babies, children, and the elderly.
Recall that 52 persons were rescued on Thursday and 14 others on Saturday by the military during ongoing operations by the troops aimed at flushing out bandits from Gundumi forest.
Governor Aliyu while receiving the victims at the Government House on Sunday, reassured the people of the state that his government would not relent in its effort to make the state safe, secure, and economically viable.
“This is indeed a commendable effort by our security operatives, especially members of Operation Hadarin Daji who have been working day and night to ensure our people sleep with their two eyes closed. Our government has made the security of lives and properties its priority.
“This is why we have convened regular meetings with heads of security agencies since coming on board, apart from other necessary support and logistics we provide to them to make their operation more effective and fruitful,” he said.
He then condoled with the families of those who lost their lives during bandits’ attacks in the state.
Also speaking, Wamakko who is representing Sokoto North Senatorial District in the National Assembly commended the governor and security operatives for their renewed effort to uproot bandits from Sokoto State.
Senator Wamakko also donated operational vehicles to each of the eight local government areas in the senatorial district.
