Inhabitants of Kwapre Community in Hong local government area of Adamawa could not celebrate 2023 Xmas with ease, following the invasion of the community by suspected insurgents on Christmas Eve.
According to residents in the area, the attackers on motorcycles invaded the community around 8: pm and shot sporadically resulting in the killing of two people and two others with one hospitalized at Federal Medical Centre Hong.
The shooting which scared the inhabitants and neighbouring communities to flee for safety to nearby villages had enabled the attackers to cart away with food items.
The inhabitants of Kwapre and surrounding communities are now fleeing the area for fear of the unknown.
The affected communities are sharing borders with Sambisa forest, the hub of Boko Haram in Borno state.
The District of Dugwaba, Simon Yakubu, appeals for funding of hunters/vigilante groups and the establishment of a military base in the area to secure several communities in the area and parts of Garkida in Gombi LGA.
“Government should create a special fund for the local hunters/vigilante groups, to cater for their needs due to their contributions in protecting lives and property of their people”, he added.
SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, also confirmed the incident, saying necessary things are being done to arrest the perpetrators.
PPRO called on people not to panic but to give useful information on the identity of those behind the attack.
Recall that in April 2021, insurgents attacked the Kwapre community in which more than 10 people were killed, and 30 people were abducted including women while several houses were burnt to ashes.
The situation also displaced more than 5,000 people at that time.
