Properties worth millions of naira were lost to fire incidents in less than a week in Yola North and Numan local government areas of Adamawa State due to bush burning and fluctuation of electricity.

Victims of the inferno are now counting losses as the Adamawa State Government had sympathized with them.

On Saturday 6/1/2024, the inferno destroyed ten shops located beside the premises of Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola, in Jimeta, Yola North local government area which was attributed to bush burning.

Also on Wednesday, 10/1/2024, a fire razed down seven shops opposite Government Secondary School GSS Numan in the Numan local government area.

During a separate sympathy visit to the victims of the inferno, Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Kaletapwa Farauta urged them to regard the incidents as an act of God and not to allow their spirits to be dampened by what happened.

Farauta warned residents to refrain from setting fire to the bush.
“This is the dry season, the harmattan winds are very strong, and people should stop indiscriminate bush burning. We call on our citizens to refrain from bush burning near residential areas and shops,” she said.

In Numan, the Deputy Governor described the midnight incident as a great loss not only to the owners of the shops but the entire Numan community.

She conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of the state government to the victims and the entire Numan community.
