An inferno on Monday morning destroyed over 40 buildings at the Ile Megida Onikanhun compound, the Isle Edun area of Ilorin, and the Ilorin South local government area in Kwara state.
The fire incident left over 120 occupants homeless, affecting 44 rooms including a mosque in the 75-room Magaji Onikanhun Compound.
The buildings served both residential and commercial purposes, where items such as fairly used doors, furniture, and bedding, among others, were sold.
It was gathered that an unknown person had burnt refuse at about 11:00 am, while the fire was spread to nearby compounds and shops caused by the smoke that ensued.
Neighborhoods have assisted in evacuating aged men and women from the burning houses as such no deaths or casualties recorded.
Falade Olumuyiwa, Director of Kwara State Fire Service while commenting on the incident urged the general public to always play safe, especially during this period.
