An explosion, which state authorities described as ‘uncommon’, tore through Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State on Tuesday night at about 7:45 p.m.

The explosion occurred at Dejo Oyelese Street in the Bodija area of Ibadan, but it reverberated in various locations in the city.

The devastating explosion caused extensive property damage and loss of lives. No casualty figure has yet to be given by the authorities.

Several residents were trapped beneath the rubble of their buildings. Search and rescue operations continued until this morning by the emergency team.

The cause of the explosion remains sketchy. Authorities are still investigating to know what led to it.

The State Governor, Seyi Makinde has assured residents that the government has “taken over and is in full control” to contain the situation and ensure that survivors receive all the care they need.
