As the people of Oyo State eagerly anticipate a rerun election slated for 3 February, fire broke out at the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters, INEC, in Ibadan South East LGA.
The fire first noticed at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday destroyed all the logistics materials in the office, according to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Adeniran Tella.
The REC said that though the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, it was assumed to have been sparked by a power surge. He said there were no casualties.
Tella added that the Saki West constituency rerun election would still be held on 3 February as scheduled.
