Nigerian troops of the joint task force “Operation Hadarin Daji” have gunned down four terrorists in separate attacks in Northwest Zamfara and Katsina States.

Two of the terrorists were slain in Zamfara on January 29 when the army raided their forest hideout. One of the deceased outlaws is a notorious terrorist kingpin called Sainaje.

With two of their men down, other gang members retreated to escape meeting the same fate, abandoning their prisoners.

The troops proceeded to set the deserted camps on fire after unbinding the captives who looked malnourished and uncared for. The freed prisoners, 17 in total, included five children.

Also, the soldiers ran into a gang of terrorists on transit with two abducted victims, and without wasting time, engaged them in a gun battle. The armed group fled on foot, and the victims were rescued.

The Nigerian Army also said it rescued 35 kidnapped victims during a raid on a terrorist camp in Dumburum Forest in Katsina State.

Captain Yahaya Ibrahim, the information officer of “Operation Hadarin Daji” joint task force, said on Tuesday that the troops killed two terrorists during the search-and-rescue operation on Saturday, 27 January.

Capt. Ibrahim added that the soldiers gunned down the terrorists during an intense gun battle. “Others escaped with severe gunshot wounds,” he said.

The freed prisoners; 19 males, 12 females and four children were taken to the State Governor, Dikko Radda.

The Governor gave a cash gift of N100,000 to each of the rescued victims to help them stand on their feet after the agonising ordeal.
