Abba Yusuf, Kano state governor, says that his government is prosecuting cases of misappropriation to the tune N5, 436,000,000 against the immediate past Ganduje administration.

The governor disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

In a statement issued by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, on Thursday, Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo received the delegation on behalf of the governor.

Governor Yusuf acknowledged the challenging task of combating corruption, maladministration, and injustice, particularly in a state with a history of kleptocrats in power.

He stressed that Kano is now the only state successfully investigating and prosecuting five grand corruption cases within the first six months of the NNPP-led administration.

“Sometimes, my attorney general personally appears in court during those trials to demonstrate the administration’s commitment to rid the state of corruption,” he said.

According to the statement, the Deputy Governor gave a detailed breakdown of the fraudulent activities currently before the courts including:

“Four Billion Naira (N4, 000,000,000) of Kano state funds were siphoned through the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company.”

“Another case involves Four Hundred and Thirty-Six Million Naira (N436, 000,000) stealing government funds under the pretext of procuring long-lasting mosquito treatment nets.”

“Equally, a One Billion Naira (N1,000,000,000) case of diverted funds stolen under the guise of renovating 30 roads within the metropolitan areas – all now before the courts,” he said.

Earlier in his remark, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the ICPC sought continuous partnership with the agency in the collective effort to combat corruption.

In a goodwill message, Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado reiterated the determination of the commission to intensify the fight against corruption.
